27 Things You Didn’t Know About Me

Today I’m going to do something a lot different than what I normally post on here. Instead I want to give you a bit of an insight into me.

It’s not to sound egotistical and brag or whatever. Rather I figure If I give you a bit of an insight to me, what I am like away from training, and from DPM Performance, you’ll realise that I am probably a lot like you in some regards.

And you will also see that I don’t live in a bubble and eat just kale and coconut oil!

So here I go – laying my cards out on the table. Let me know if you’ve got any in common.

  1. When I was a kid, and even as a teenager, I was determined that I was going to be a first grade football (rugby league) star. Needless to say that didn’t eventuate!
  2. I figure I must have been a bit of a bad person in a past life as I’m a Parramatta Eels supporter in this life – and the last time we won a comp I was in 3rd grade (1986).
  3. I met my wife Bronwyn in 2005 – after my Dad died. It is one of my biggest regrets that she never got to meet him. In fact, we met at a wedding of a good friend of mine who had tried to set us up for years (she married her brother). Little did I know that she had been getting the same spiel about me for the same amount of time. Sure enough, my friend was right and got married in the Hunter Valley in 2009. That was the scene of our first getaway together and said then it would be the perfect place for a wedding.
  4. This is a really personal one – when I was a kid I had a stutter that used to be seriously embarrassing at times. Luckily I kicked it as time went on.
  5. I used to be a rides operator at Australia’s Wonderland and also a bartender.
  6. My favourite job I ever had before starting DPM was as a Camp Counsellor in Alabama. I got paid to get a sun tan working as a lifeguard and had some of the best times of my life and met some great people.
  7. In the last few years I have rediscovered my love of basketball – well at least watching it. My wife and I are Sydney Kings fans and members and love a good night at The Kingdome. I also love watching as much NBA action as I can.
  8. I actually crossed off one of my bucket list goals and saw a live NBA game back in 2007 when I saw Miami and Seattle.
  9. A big bucket list goal for me is to sit courtside at a Lakers or Heat game.
  10. I have an addiction to travel although I haven’t been able to see as many overseas places in recent years as I would have liked.
  11. My favourite places that I’ve been to are in no particular order – Las Vegas, Hawaii, Santorini, Florence.
  12. I would love to go back and do New York properly this time and take my wife with me.
  13. If I wasn’t doing what I do now – my dream career would be to be a professional punter. I love a bet on sports especially Rugby League and basketball.
  14. I enjoy reading especially biographies of successful people and business books.
  15. My body is like a bit of a train wreck from years of playing football. In fact I retired from playing rugby when I was only 23 after getting spear tackled in my first game back from a neck injury. I decided that I’d rather be able to walk and lost the passion to play after one injury too many. Apart from my neck, I still have occasional issues with my lower back and knees.
  16. I used to coach rugby union for 3 seasons after my playing career ended prematurely.
  17. I love listening to music – especially hip hop music and a bit of rock especially 80’s-90’s hair bands. My favourite artists are Jay Z, Kanye West, Bon Jovi and Dave Matthews Band.
  18. I have splashed out for tickets near the stage to see Bon Jovi for a second time later this year which I am looking forward to  – despite people paying me out on loving them!
  19. I am definitely not a clean eating person 100% of the time. In fact I love nothing more than having a drink watching the footy or over a good meal on a weekend. My go-to is definitely a good red – especially a good shiraz and I also love a rum, lime and dry.
  20. My favourite cheat meal would have to be a really good tasting pizza.
  21. My wife is an amazing cook and my last meal would be either her lasagna or spaghetti bolognaise washed down with a really nice shiraz. Followed by her caramel slice or cheesecake.
  22. My favourite TV series of all time is Entourage and I have been known to watch a whole series in one day a number of times!
  23. These days I am going back through The Sopranos. I love a good DVD series.
  24. I used to be bit of a party animal back in the day – going out all night on the drink, getting a couple of hours sleep and backing up for uni or work the next day feeling very ordinary. These days I’d rather be getting up at the time I used to be getting home at!
  25. I also have a weakness for really good chips – french fries. I don’t get them much these days as I only order them when they are gluten free.
  26. I’m not a coeliac but I find, like most people tend to, that gluten doesn’t actually agree with my body. So I stay away from it.
  27. And perhaps the biggest one yet – I am going to be a Dad in January for the first time and I am so looking forward to it! I’m looking forward to life never being the same again!

So there you go.

I hope I didn’t bore you to tears with this but it feels good to put  that down so you can realise I am more than just healthy eating and exercise!
